After seven years of recruitment in Edmonton and Calgary, the AMBER cohort study has reached the target sample size of 1500 study participants. This project is examining how physical activity, sedentary behaviour and health-related fitness are related to survival after breast cancer. The Calgary study team members include Leanne Dickau, Rebecca Urbat, Nathaniel Minichiello, Sue Daniel, Trisha Kelly and Tracy Xu who have worked diligently to help us reach this objective. Each participant has measurements taken at baseline (between surgery and start of treatments) and again at one, three and five years post-diagnosis and is followed up for an additional five years for outcomes. The study investigators are: Christine Friedenreich and Kerry Courneya (co-PIs), Jeff Vallance, Nicole Culos-Reed, Margie McNeely, Gordon Bell, Charles Matthews, Karen Kopciuk, Darren Brenner, John Mackey, Sasha Lupichuk, Jessica McNeil. We are thrilled to reach this milestone and grateful to all 1500 participants who have agreed to provide us with their time and valuable data.
