Congratulations to Dr. Christine Friedenreich who was recently named as a ‘Friend of IARC’ (International Agency for Research on Cancer)! This is a very prestigious honor that is only granted to a small and select group of people. There are currently a total of 22 ‘Friends of IARC’ from all over the world who act as ambassadors for the agency. Appointees have made significant contributions to IARC’s mission to reduce the global cancer burden. Christine has a long history with IARC; she was a Postdoctoral Research Training Fellow from 1990 to 1991, a Senior Visiting Scientist in 2004 and 2005, the Canadian representative on the IARC Scientific Council from 2018 to 2021, and the Chairperson of the Scientific Council in 2020 and 2021.
