The Alberta Pregnancy Outcomes and Nutrition (APrON) study established a pregnancy cohort to determine the effects of the perinatal environment (e.g. nutrition, toxicants, maternal mood and stress levels) on maternal mental health and child development. APrON is following the trajectory of child development from pregnancy through birth to early age (3 to 5). Findings from APrON will help to inform parents in planning their prenatal care, healthcare providers in addressing the needs of pregnant women and children, as well as health and human services administrators and government policy-makers in determining the service support needs of families.
