The PEAK-RP study is a randomized controlled trial testing the implementation strategy of a mind-body-exercise intervention that prepares prostate cancer patients and their caregivers for radical prostatectomy. Prostate cancer affects over 20,000 Canadian men and their families per year. Surgery is a common treatment choice and results in high survival rate for clinically localized prostate cancer. However, the procedure may generate anxiety for patients and their caregivers leading up to surgery and often results in distressing and lasting treatment-related side-effects. In partnership with the Prostate Cancer Centre in Calgary and PROSTAID Calgary, the goal of this project is to develop an RP prehabilitation model to improve the quality of care and experience and outcome of patients in a simple, efficient, and minimally disruptive manner.
