Federal legislation allowing for the provision of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) was enacted in Canada in June 2016. Given the increase in MAiD use and changes in policy, there is an opportunity to better understand who is requesting MAiD and who is accessing it, especially in understudied populations such as the Young Adult (18 – 39 years) cancer patients where cancer is on the rise. Alberta is in a unique position to provide patient reported outcomes (PROs) context to these MAiD data by linking to electronic medical records in Alberta Health Services (AHS). Our aim is to better understand MAiD use, inform patient care, and improve end-of-life care in Alberta cancer patients.
