The Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research is located in Calgary, a thriving and dynamic city in the province of Alberta, Canada. The Heart of the Western Canada – Calgary is situated in the south of the province, in a region of foothills just east of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. At over 1.3 million people, Calgary is the largest city in Alberta and the third largest city, by population, in Canada.
Calgary is a global destination for winter sports, with a number of world-class mountain resorts near the city. As a top winter destination, Calgary was the first Canadian city to host The Olympic Winter Games in 1988 and is the home of many of the Olympic training facilities.
Calgary is also a top summer destination for its easy access to some of the best hiking, camping, fishing, mountain climbing and outdoor exploration in the world. For two weeks every July “Cowtown” hosts the Calgary stampede – known as The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. This exciting showcase of western culture attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city as well as top music and entertainment acts. Calgary also holds many major annual festivals.
