Each year approximately 9,000 individuals aged 15-39 years old, also referred to as adolescents and young adults (AYAs), are diagnosed with cancer in Canada. Despite the significant increases AYA cancer burden over the last 30 years, there has been little improvement in AYA cancer, particularly cancer control. With the Attitudes, Behaviours and Cancer Study, we hope to understand why cancer is on the rise in this age group by asking young cancer patients, their family members, and their friends to complete a questionnaire about genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. Our goal is to investigate young people’s knowledge and beliefs about cancer to tailor current primary care prevention strategies to this younger population.
