Congratulations to Dr. Lin Yang on her recently awarded grant entitled: “Participating Exercise Prehabilitation to Keep up Function Capacity for Radical Cystectomy: A Window-of-Opportunity Randomized Controlled Trial: PEAK-RC” from the Office of Surgical Research, University of Calgary. This three year grant was funded for $150,000 and includes Dr M. Eric Hyndman as the Nominated Principal Applicant (Dr Yang is the co-PI) and Drs Andria Morielli and Shaminder Singh as collaborators. Work-ing with the Prostate Cancer Centre in Calgary and Surgery SCN, this project aims to conduct a pilot study to test a physician-motivated, virtually-supervised intervention with activity tracker monitoring to deliver high intensity interval training (HIIT) exercise to bladder cancer patients before radical cystectomy. They seek to understand the feasibility of exercise prehabilita-tion in this population to generate preliminary data on the effect of exercise rehabilitation on functional and patient-reported outcomes, and will explore the effect of exercise prehabilitation on surgical complications, and will estimate treatment efficacy among those who receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Congratulations Lin, Andria and your team! Wonderful to see this grant funded which will further your research on prehabilitation in prostate cancer patients building on your PEAK-RP project.
